The Big 60!

Okay, so the main reason we went to Buffalo was to help Grandpa Rick ring in his 60th birthday. I bet you're wondering why there are no actual pictures of this event (this random one above was added for sheer cuteness factor), or Grandpa Rick at all. Well, Daddy forgot the camera at Aunt Joy's house the day of the bash. But rest assured, we all had a very good time. I hope that Grandpa had fun with all of his family! I know I did (Nice house, Uncle Mike!)
We did, however, remember to bring the camera to the Buffalo Zoo. I'm glad we got to visit it, even if the train ride was broken (something I lamented to Mama, Meema and anyone who would listen). We got to see lots of great animals and eat ice pops. I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to take me back to Turtleback Zoo soon where the train actually does work. ( I like to ride it a bazillion times in a row, so maybe that's why no one wants to take me back. Hmmm.)
Anyway, I had a very wonderful time on my trip, visiting with family from both Grandma & Grandpa's side. I even got to hang out with Sam & Max, my big boy cousins! I hope I get to visit again soon. I'm happy to be home, though, and I know that Mama sure was glad to see me!!!!!

Ava Marie, Photographer

Daddy was more than willing to let someone else do the picture taking during our weekend in Buffalo. Ava loves to take a photo, so he let her go nuts with the camera. Mama thought these were some good examples of my cousin's photography skills. :)
Actually, while Mama was first perusing these pictures, she didn't know that Ava had taken them and thought Daddy was, well, losing it.

Two Cousins and an Uncle

I'm back! For awhile now a Ford Family Reunion had been planned in Buffalo, in honor Grandpa Rick's 60th birthday. Aunt Jenny was going to fly out with Izzy & Ava, so Grandma decided to go, too. However, she left much earlier than Daddy, Uncle Erik and I were going to leave. Always one to enjoy a train ride, M&D shipped me off with Grandma early last week. Boy did I have fun! Slowly, but surely tons of playmates started to arrive and I got to spend nearly an entire week with my two cousins and my uncle (hee!), Brandon! They taught me a lot about how to be a big kid and we sure did have fun together. We swam and played games and even went to the Buffalo Zoo. Honestly, I can't stop talking about them. Mama missed me terribly, but I was kind enough to talk to her on the phone, albeit briefly, every single day. I know she's glad I'm back, though. I can regale her with stories, after all!

Crazy Bus, Etc.

I wanted to make a separate post just to talk about the rides on the boardwalk when I went to the beach a few weeks back. After a long day at the beach with Mama, you would think I would be a bit tuckered. But Uncle G, Auntie Louise, Aunt Lynda and Uncle Erik arrived for some food and fun. After totally turning my nose up to the hot dog that Uncle G bought for me, we ventured onto the rides. As recently as a month back, I HATED rides. I was okay if someone came on with me, but not so hot if I had to go alone. Unfortunately, some rides adults just can't go on. I was okay, though, both solo and with my very fun ride buddy. Here we are on the Crazy Bus waving to everyone down below. That was a good one. I was sort of partial to the motorcycles, though; perhaps I was paying homage to my Meema, the rider! But I loved this one so much I went on more times than I could count. I would hold on very tight, looking very serious. A rider has to be cautious, after all.

I'm sure glad Uncle G sprung for the big pack of ride tickets. We have to hit Jenkinsons a few more times before the season comes to a close, now that I'm a little daredevil.

Third Annual

We went to Evie's third birthday party this past weekend. I was thinking back and I realized that I have attended all of Evie's birthday parties. She's one of my oldest friends. Here she is when she turned one and when she turned two. I can't believe how much we've grown. Isn't it the coolest? So much has happened in the last few years. We've given up pacis, some of us are using the potty, most of us have siblings. I'm so glad we're all still buddies!

All of the usual suspects were there and even some new ones, which made it so fun. You gotta hand it to Evie's M&D- they sure find some cool folks to hang out with! It's so fun when the M&D's get along as well as us kids. I could tell that my own M&D were really having a great time. As usual, Evie's daddy grilled up some delcious treats and there were both child and adult beverages a-plenty. The outdoor toys were definitely "kicked up a notch" as well this year. I guess that's another perk to getting older. There was a Slip N Slide! And look at the cake that Lucy's mommy made. Did she do a great job? It was delicious!

It's no surprise that everyone had a really fun time. When we all get together, we always do. Happy Birthday, Evie!!

Fantastico

Evie's grandparent's in Spain bought her this really cool flamenco outfit for her third birthday! We did some dressing up at Evie's party on Saturday and I think that everyone thought I wore it pretty well. I do think I look pretty fab. I mean, if nothing else, I'm festive. I think it really suits the lovely birthday girl, though, don't you?
There are also pictures circulating around of me in earrings, a necklace and a plastic fireman's hat. But I thought I spare myself total humiliation. Plus, I look like I'm the newest and youngest member of the Village People.

Pleasant Indeed

If there were a day to hit the beach, Sunday was it! It was gorgeous and sunny, with no clouds in the sky and not too hot or humid. It was perfect.

Sunday morning, Gaga had to take a boating class with Uncle Erik, Aunt Lynda & Uncle G in Brielle, NJ. Mama and I decided to hitch a ride with them down the shore, drop them off and then go to Pt. Plesant for some beach fun. We got there at about 9:30, which is really the way to go. It wasn't too crowded yet and there was plenty of parking. The water was quite choppy and there were dangerous riptides due to Hurricane Bertha, so we couldn't go in the water. It was okay, though, because I made a little friend named Paul who was almost exactly my age. His M&D (and the nanny, Julia,- I'm such an opportunist, making friends with the wealthy) brought a kiddie pool and some really cool toys (CAT bulldozers. Need I say more?). So I just played with them all day! Smart, right? I did get close to the ocean later on in the day to dip my toes. It was very exciting- and cold!

Can you believe that we were on the beach until 4:30? It's a good thing Mama brought a nice big blanket and beach chairs for us (we have matching ones that I have deemed, "Mama chair" and "baby chair"). Thankfully, I was adequately sunscreened, so my tender flesh is still as pale as ever. Sadly, we can't say the same for my mother.

Big Bad City Kiddie

I had an action packed weekend! It started off with a trip to New York with Mama on Saturday. Everyone knows I'm a big fan of trains, so in an effort to entertain me without spending a lot of money, Mama decided we would go for a PATH train ride. Wow, what fun. I got to buy the tickets, put them in the machine, walk through the turnstile... I didn't know you could have so much for $1.75!

Upon arriving in the city, we just walked up 6th Avenue, making lots of cool stops along the way. First off, we went to a store called Sabon and got a hand-washing, complete with lotion. Mama and I sniffed all the scrubs before deciding which one to chose. She picked the Orange Ginger and I went with the Lemon Mint (AKA, the green one). It felt really good! After that, we hit up a NY staple- Mr. Softee, also referred to by me as "Mr Ice Cream Head." I could tell Mama was a bit disappointed that I chose the SpongeBob ice pop instead of a twist in a cone with sprinkles, but what can I say, I'm three. We also visited Mama's old dorm, went to the Farmer's Market in Union Square and went into a giant Barnes and Noble, the likes of which I have never seen. Oh, and Mama also made me pose in front of Xavier High School because there's something about the idea of me in a college prepartory school that gets her all excited. Maybe she wants me to be a Jesuit like Gaga.
Anyway, I LOVE NY!

Ricordi (Translation: Souvenirs)

Meema recently returned from a fun trip to Italy with her friends. I missed her while she was gone, but lucky for me, she came home with lots of Italian treasures for yours truly (including this picture of Pope Benedict XVI-ha!) Here are some of the things she brought back for us: a book about a gondola ride, trains that spell out my name, my very own Ponocchio toy, an Italia tee-shirt and "family" Rosary beads for me, Meema, Mama and Auntie Arlene. Oh and cookies. Lots of cookies. I wasn't the only one who got fun stuff, either. Meema bought Mama a gorgeous leather bag. I'm going to try my hardest not to get it dirty!
Of course, it's most important that Meema got home safely. But I'm not going to lie- the gifts sure were great! Grazie, Meema!

Ohhhh, ahhhhhhhh

Coolest. Things. Ever. Who knew? This year was actually my fourth Fourth of July, but my first real fireworks experience. Year one, I was just born, year two it rained and I probably wouldn't have cared anyway and last year, more rain. But this year? Oh wow! I actually got to see fireworks twice. My meema (who loves fireworks more than anyone I know) taught me how to say, "Ohh, ahhh" after each one. As someone who just loves a refreshing drink the "ahh" part sounded more like I just took a swig of an iced cold apple juice, but still. You got the idea. Mama discovered that there is actually a "fireworks" setting on her new camera. While it's not quite the same as being there in person, I think this picture is kind of neat. I really like fireworks, even if they can be a little loud and scary.

Luckily the famous "girls" (Morgan, Courtney & Jessi) were there to keep me company, feed me pizza and supply me with blankets!

Ducks

I just realized that I never posted the excitment that was last weekend! I discovered my new favorite activity- feeding the ducks (and birds and squirrels and any other animal that eats stale bread)! Meema had a random loaf sitting around, so we decided that it would fun to go the water and give those duckies some treats. Boy were they grateful! You should've seen them go nuts as I chucked full pieces of bread at their head. Because I wasn't always so keen on breaking the pieces up, they went kind of fast. Good thing Meema's friend Peggy arrived not long after, with Morgan, Courtney and Jessi and a TON of crackers in tow!

Where to begin?

I had a packed 4th of July weekend 2008. I had my first good fireworks experience, I went for a ride on both a trolley and a golf cart, fed ducks & got presents from Italy. But let's start with the best part of all- the ladies. God Bless America.

The maternal side

I'm posting this picture because I think it is really, really cute. And let's be honest- these cast of characters aren't in the same picture very often. :)

Poser

Could it be that I'm finally realizing that "CHEESE!" is not just something you put on bread and grill, or something you just say when there is a camera in your face, but don't actually look at? I'm not sure I'm up for this whole posing thing quite yet, but when Mama catches me in one of my posing moods, she gets so excited she insists I post them on my blog. Little does she realize, I would probably be more willing if she *didn't* take quite so many photos. Sheesh.

Little Nudists

I'm glad Evie and I are still young enough for these kind of shenanigans! On Saturday, M&D took me to Evie's house for some dinner and frolicking. Since the kiddie pool was all set up and it was a warm June evening, we decided that full-on nudity was in order. I love the be in the buff (it really shows off my expert bum shaking, afterall) and apparently so does Evie. I knew I liked this girl. Mama didn't have the camera, so she had to steal this pic off of Evie's blog. However, it really captures the spirit of the evening.

We ran around, trashed the playroom, ate hamburgers & ice cream cones and then splashed around in the tub. Not a bad Saturday.
