Uncle Adam

Ok, so this is how lazy my mother can be: We moved here (to NJ) THREE YEARS AGO and I'm just now meeting one of her dearest friends from NYU, Adam. Can you believe it? Adam's grandma actually lives in Buffalo, so I think she saw him more when she lived there. Well, that wasn't doing me any good, was it? Mama decided enough was enough and took us into Manhattan (yes, that's right, it's a whole 15 miles). The trip there was even exciting. Right before we got to the Holland Tunnel, sirens started blaring and all cars (including us) had to move over to one lane. Turns out there was a motorcycle run going to Ground Zero. So not only did I get to see a ton of police cars, but then hundreds of motorcycles came through. It got a little old after awhile and I must admit that it did tack about an hour onto our trip. But what can you do, right?

When we finally made it, we met Uncle Adam at a beautiful park near Battery Park. It's right on the water and we could see NJ and the Statue of Liberty and all the big boats (something about booze cruises?) going by. The sun was setting over the Hudson River and it was just beautiful. Not to mention, there was rocks to jump of off. I made sure that Mama & Uncle Adam watched very closely as I did all my tricks, even if they did do some "catching up" in between.

After that, we walked over the South Street Seaport for some dinner and Italian ice. There was such hustle and bustle (shopping! tourists! boats! street performers!), I didn't even notice how past my bedtime it was before we actually headed home back to Jersey. It was worth it, though, what a day! I do love NY, especially in the summer, and Mama sure does have some amazing friends. I'll be back Uncle Adam!

Stephen and the Chairs

My schedule has changed recently. I am now with Mama on Wednesday and Thursday nights, because Aunt Arlene has patients in "our bedroom" on Tuesday night. Recently, however, one of the people she sees decided to switch from Sunday morning to Thursday night. The nerve! Now on Thursday evenings, Mama and I have to entertain ourselves outside of the apartment until about 8:30. Chrystine and Stephen to the rescue. Meeting them for dinner (almost always at Whole Foods) has been a ritual for awhile now. But since we have so much more time now, last week we brought our dinner to their house AND stayed to play afterwards.

We had lots of fun in "Baby Village" ( AKA "Baby Jail") as Stephen has many great books and toys. There are also comfy chairs, both big and small, which can provide hours of fun. I wish, however, that Stephen would listen to his mommy when she says not to stand up on the chairs. I don't like to see my friends get in trouble. But it sure is great hanging out with them and I think they like us, too! Taking Mama & Jude on for an entire evening- now those are good friends! And on another "we love Chrys & Stephen" note, I went to their house and played without Mama for about two hours last Saturday. We sure are lucky to have them in our lives!

From the Auntie Jen Files

Remember how I mentioned that I spent an afternoon with Jen and her sons a couple weeks ago? Well, she shared some of our antics with Mama and we decided that they were very blog-worthy. I'm so lucky to have found a friend equally as silly as I am! Notice, if you will, the giant ball o' playdoh right near me. I like to mix it all up and make crazy colors. I think owe Dalton a few packs.

Uncle Al's Race Car

Sure, the pool and the cookies were cool and all, but check out Al's car. Isn't it cool? It's actually a PT Cruiser, although I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this on the open road. It's customed painted, has super cool lights & flames on the inside and even has a juke box in the back. Here I am pretending to start it up while one of my best gals hops in.

Uncle Al also had a huge car collection in his basement that he took me to see. I really like this guy. I was so impressed & excited that hours after he first took me to see it, I put my shoes on, walked in the house and announced very sweetly, "I have my shoes to go see Uncle Al's cars downstairs." Mama said I looked so cute that she just had to take me down there again. She didn't seem to know as much about them as Uncle Al did, but I just wanted to touch them anyway.

Reunited and It Feels So Good

Last weekend I went to the Joy's pool party for the second year in a row. As I mentioned last year, it was really a great time. Patti & Al have the best pool toys, including Flippy as seen here. To left is me with him last August. And here we are this past Saturday, once again enjoying a summer day together! The party had all the makings of a wonderful pool party- swimming, dancing & cupcakes. In other "reunion" news, Uncle Doodles was also there. It's very cute because I know offically say Uncle Doodles quite clearly, just like Mama used to. Everyone was amazed at how much I had grown since last year and how well I was talking. What can I tell you folks, these are exciting times.

That's Amore

You know, I have so many posts about pizza (eating and/or making) that Mama and I are really struggling to come up with clever titles. I've said it time and time again-my food tastes are decidedly Italian in nature. But anyway, I just have to mention that Meema and I made pizza on Saturday night. It's like "our thing." Meema makes sure she has the dough waiting for when I get there, not to mention plenty of toppings for me to throw on, and a crisp apron to wear.
The pizza came out really well this go-round. Meema was bummed because we forgot to put the fresh mozzarella on. I still liked it. There were even extra slices to take home. On Sunday, I had my leftover piece for dinner and thought of my special Meema. And apparently, she did the same. Maybe "Lisa & Grandson Pizza Shop" is in our future.

Do Do Do, Da Da Da

I've been meaning to mention that the whole reason I went upstate in the first place was because Mama went to see The Police with Meema & Meema's friend, Peggy. (This is them doing a little tailgating.) I was told that a good time was had by all, even if Peggy did think the walk from the parking lot was a little far AND thought that they were going to see The Village People. Silly Peggy.

Anyway, while Mama was out rocking out with Sting and Elvis Costello (she wants to mention that they sang "Alison" together because she thought it was very cool), I was hanging out with Mama's friend, Jen and her boys. I'm not sure if I have mentioned them before, but it isn't the first time Mama has enlisted one of her oldest friends to watch me while she does something upstate. I always have a wonderful time because Jen has three really fun kids! Andrew is almost 8, Dalton is 3.5 and Ben is 1.5. They have lots of cool toys and like to watch the same shows, so I couldn't ask for better playmates. The coolest part was that we met them at the pool in Saugerties and we swam and played outside for a few hours. What a great time! Thanks, Jen!

Around dinner time, Peepa came and took me out for pizza (it was so very good)! Then, we watched the Yankees (just a little- I wanted to watch Thomas) and ate ice cream (something that I *just* told Mama about this morning). I'm always happy to see Peepa because he's fun & goofy like me and we have lots of adventures. What a packed afternoon! I hope Mama goes to many more functions in the greater Ulster County area because I have lots of fun contacts up there!

Meema's Oasis

I spent last Saturday at Meema's house and I always have so much fun. Meema makes sure to have all my favorite foods on hand and we usually do something really fun. This is Meema's first summer in her new apartment and I really like it! Her porch is full of gorgeous flowers and I love being able to eat outside. Not to mention the backyard proudly displays even more plants and the bright red gazing ball that Mama and I bought her for Mother's Day. It's really quite lovely and relaxing. See look! I'm almost falling asleep in that picture above. (OK, not really. I've started saying cheese and actually posing, but I clearly do not hold it long enough.)

And private! Check out Meema's very functional (*snort*) shade that blocks the porch next to us.

Pita Chips!

Everything, and I do mean everything, can be turned into a song and dance routine.
